Purpose

Districts spend a good deal of money on the software, hardware and human support to operate a variety of databases—from their Student Information System to accounting applications. Despite this level of investment, most districts end up with systems that are less than ideal and cost more than necessary. District leaders must establish priorities, make cuts and reduce inefficiencies, all the while continuing to make academic progress. Pivot’s Data SWAT Team can provide direct, targeted support for school districts as they upgrade their legacy systems and satisfy the need for timely, accurate and accessible information systems.

Approach

Pivot Learning Partners will audit the district’s data system and make recommendations about both potential cost savings and improved outputs.

With a sole focus on solving a district’s data problem with an affordable solution, the Pivot Data SWAT Team will:

• Identify and prioritize the immediate gaps and “pain points” in a district’s assessment and student information system and propose recommendations and implement “quick fixes” in a timely manner.

• Analyze deeper, underlying system problems and opportunities and provide a menu of strategic implementation choices.

• Help facilitate a process of prioritizing problems, identifying resources and making strategic choices.

• Increase the capacity of district and site staff to maintain data systems and train others.

A typical Data SWAT engagement can last between three months to one year, depending on the findings and recommendations. From analysis to implementation, Pivot works in consultation and coordination with district staff to identify choices and opportunities along the way to an improved data system.
