Gloria Story
Regional Director & Project Lead

Gloria was nominated for Top Ten Business Professional Women of the Year as well a nominee for Administrator of the Year for Central Unified where she was a Principal at Liddell Elementary. Prior to her position as Regional Director, Gloria was an Assistant Superintendent in Human Resources for Sanger Unified. Her earlier career included teaching Physical Education at Madera High School and Clovis West High School where she coached swimming, gymnastics, pep, cheer, and leadership and was also the Activities Director. Gloria is most proud of the impact she had coaching principals and district office administration. In her work coaching principals she has been able to monitor their growth over time and has been able to watch these principals lead their schools to new levels of student achievement and teacher practice.


Jonica Bushman

Jonica M. Bushman

Prior to working with PLP, Jonica worked as a Middle School Site Administrator at Clovis USD. She has also worked as a Secondary Language Arts Coordinator for Fresno USD and a Teacher Coach and Curriculum Developer for Clovis USD. She is most proud of her 24 years of classroom teaching. Her goal was to make the world more accessible to all through literacy competence, and I believe my classroom efforts accomplished this for many of my wonderful students.

Jonica has been a contributing author to 50 Ways to Develop Strategic Writers, Pearson Merrill Prentice Hall, 2005 and is associated with the California Association of Teachers of English, the National Association of Teachers of English and the San Joaquin Valley Writers Project.


Sandra Carsten
* Director of Curriculum Development; Central Valley Project Lead for Central Unified, Madera Unified and the Northern California Algebra Project

* BA in history from CSUF in 1969; MA in Administration from La Verne University in 1984

Sandra Carsten

Sandy has served as the President of the Association of California School Administrators during the 2004-’05 school year and was the state president and member of the SCSA State Board for a total of 8 years. Prior to working with PLP, she was the Assistant Superintendent of K-8 education with Fresno USD for nine years.

Sandy has taught elementary school in FUSD for 10 years with a focus on Intermediate grades.  She has also taught adult literacy classes, teacher preparation courses, and provided professional development to K-12 teachers in English Language Arts and Mathematics. She is most proud of her leadership over a seven year period in FUSD for a K-12 Urban Systemic Initiative in science and mathematics education designed to provide equity and opportunity for all students in science and mathematics.


Gary Giannoni

* BS in Physical Education/Social Science from Eastern New Mexico University in 1971; MA in Educational Administration from USF in 1981

Gary Giannoni

Gary has been the recipient of the Golden Apple Administrator of the Year while at CUSD in 2000 as well as the Fresno-Madera California Music Educator Association Administrator of the Year in 2001. He is most proud of leading two separate schools to California Distinguished School status (Jefferson Elementary/Clovis West High School) and CWHS to National Blue Ribbon status. He is also proud of being responsible for the opening and structuring of Alta Sierra Intermediate School as a new school in CUSD in 1993-94.

Prior to working with PLP, Gary was an Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services with Clovis Unified School District. He has also held positions as a secondary curriculum and instructional administrator, and as a principal for an elementary, intermediate and high school, all at CUSD.


Julia O'Kane

Julia O'Kane

Julia was the recipient of the ACSA Region 9 Superintendent of the Year in 2006. Prior to working with PLP she was the Superintendent, Madera Unified and prior to that, the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for Madera. She is most proud of having the opportunity  to develop a culture in Madera Unified which is focused on student achievement and closing the achievement gap.


Joy Rose
* Project Lead for Standard Elementary School, Wasco Union Elementary School and Taft City School Districts
* Working with PLP since June, 2007
* BA from California State University, Chico in 1966; MA from California State University, Bakersfield in 1974; Administrative Services Credential from California Lutheran College in 1991

Joy Rose

Joy is the recipient of the California Distinguished School Award. She has been the ACSA Scholarship Chair for five years, as well as has been a Delta Kappa Gamma Board Member and a Kappa Delta Pi Charter Member.  Prior to working at Pivot Learning Partners, Joy worked as Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Panama-Buena Vista Union School District. She taught classes in the Teacher Education Department, supervising student teachers for CSU Bakersfield for approximately 15 years, and was a member of the CSUB Advisory Committee for Elementary Education.

Her greatest source of pride while acting as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Panama-Buena Vista USD was the success of the “Parent Resource Center,” an outreach program that was available to the entire community. 

 


Karen Rowe* Central Valley Project Manager; DAIT manager for Wasco UHSD, Richland USD, Dinuba USD and Cutler-Orosi USD

Karen Rowe

Prior to working with PLP, Karen was the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Kings Canyon Unified. She has also served as the Administrator of Curriculum and Instruction for Visalia Unified School District. While there she gained experience working with a more diverse student population and developed district level PLCs to build systems that had positive impact on student achievement for all, and to ensure common understandings of the work that needed to be done.

Karen holds the belief that the work she has done and continues to do makes a difference.  Each of the positions that she has held brought with it challenges and opportunities to create systems that impact students and their families in a positive way.


Mary Vaughan
* Central Valley Project Lead for Madera USD and Lemoore
* Working with PLP since spring 2004
* BA from CSUF in 1965, MA from La Verne University in 1978

Mary L. Vaughan

Prior to working with PLP, Mary was the Assistant Superintendent fro Firebaugh Las Deltas and has also worked as the Director of Instructional Services at Fowler Unified and as the Elementary Principal for Fowler Unified. She is a member of SCSA and ASCD.

Mary believes that working with Pivot Learning Partners has been a profound experience. This opportunity has enhanced her professional knowledge around leadership, systems, and coaching . Applying that knowledge to her work with Madera Unified has been one of the most exciting and satisfying professional challenges of her career.


Karen Ward

Karen Ward

Karen has worn many hats in her career including Technology Director, Teacher Mentor, Professional Development Coach and Leader, and Department Chair for Clovis East High School.

One of her proudest accomplishments as a District Leader for Clovis Unified was being part of the implementation of the 1-to-1 Teaching and Learning Program which has proven to be effective in transforming instructional practices, student engagement, and student achievement. The 1-to-1 Teaching Program has remained sustainable for the last 10 years at the secondary level in Clovis Unified. Karen is also a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

 


Steve Weil
* Project Lead and Coach for Dinuba USD, Central USD, and Wasco Elementary USD
* Working with PLP since June, 2007
*Life Teaching Credential from California State University, Fresno in 1974; MA in Guidance and Counseling from California State University, Fresno in 1980; Life Administrative Credential from California State University, Fresno in 1984.

Steve Weil

Steve has been the recipient of the Crystal Award for District Administrator of the Year, The Fresno County Comprehensive Youth Service Award, and the ACSA Service Award.  Steve’s extensive background includes acting as Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services for Clovis Unified School District, Area Superintendent for Clovis West Area Schools, and Principal of Clovis High School.

Some of Steve's proudest moments occurred while serving as Deputy Principal and Principal for Clovis High School, particularly when it was recognized twice as a National Blue Ribbon School in 1987 and 1993. Steve is a member of ACSA and the National Staff Development Council.
